Quality Education

E_SDG goals_icons-individual-rgb-04CSD combines applied research and policy advising to create an environment where the goal of universal primary education is within reach for all children. The CSD education sector team works to fast-track increased enrollment, completion of a full cycle of primary school, and gender parity in the schools. We believe this can be achieved through a holistic and multi-sectoral approach by identifying relevant priorities, budgets, and specific programming in collaboration with local governments and education teams in the communities where we work. We also provide research, technical guidance in consultation with national and local governments, educational institutions, NGOs, communities, and other support structures.

CSD education programs are guided by ongoing research and monitoring. In collaboration with other research teams at the Earth Institute – including the Modi Lab – we regularly collect and analyze real-time data on learning assessments and operational indicators (generated as monthly report cards) to ensure our programs are having the greatest impact towards achieving the SDGs. Also, we regularly engage in, Android-based school-facility and infrastructure mapping, and author policy briefings on education policies around the world to outline various priorities, strategies and case studies to share lessons across geo-political contexts.

Connect to Learn

Education is a fundamental universal human right, a path to self-determination, and essential for the sustainable development of every nation. Connect To Learn is a partnership of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, Ericsson and Millennium Promise whose mission is to address the lack of universal access to quality education, with an emphasis on the marginalized (especially girls), in resource poor settings globally. We aim to achieve this mission by enabling access to quality instructional and learning resources through innovative teaching practices and technology tools in schools, and by ensuring each child, girls and boys alike, get access to both primary and secondary schooling as well are equipped with 21st century skills to help increase their professional opportunities and improve their quality of life.
