Juliana Bartels

Juliana Bartels serves as Special Assistant to the Director at the Center for Sustainable Development. In the Director's Office, Juliana provides research, writing, and editorial support to Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, in addition to managing various media and communications channels. She also helps to oversee and manage the administrative and logistical dimensions of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission Secretariat at CSD.

Juliana graduated cum laude from Columbia University with a B.A. in Sustainable Development, a Concentration in Anthropology, and a Special Concentration in Women's and Gender Studies. She provided editorial and publishing assistance for Professor Sachs' The Ages of Globalization: Geography, Technology, and Institutions (Columbia University Press, 2020) while finishing her degree. Juliana has field experience in Jordan and India, and her previous work includes bartending and urban farming. She is interested in issues of water, sanitation, and gender equality.
