The United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth is the official youth constituency to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and are convening this global event on the sidelines of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) inter-sessional meetings to address elements of the UNEA process and broader environmental governance and climate action.

On the Assembly’s day for children (June 6th, 10am EST), EcoRadio workshop will feature a training on effective media/communication along with Q&A and interactive group activity for all participants to teach youth and children how to make their own “radio” segment in Public Service Announcement (PSA) format, on sustainability issues, including COVID-19 and current events. Youth and children will learn how to record and showcase voices and create powerful communications campaigns to continue advocacy work even during times like COVID-19 when individuals and groups cannot collaborate in-person.

The EcoRadio Workshop series, a component of the Eco Ambassador Program, started as a collaboration between Center for Sustainable Development (CSD)’s education team and Initiative on Communication & Sustainability of Columbia University’s Earth Institute, led by Andrew Revkin and Radhika Iyengar. The outcome of the first product is a collection of youth voices, also featured on Pod of the Planet.

Similarly, the final product - “YEA EcoRadio” featuring youth and children’s voices and messages - will be compiled by the Earth Institute team and be featured on the UNEP MGCY website.
