Jeffrey Sachs receives French Legion of Honor

On May 11th 2022, the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, was made a Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honour by the French Ambassador to the United States, Philippe Etienne, at the French Consulate in New York’s Upper East Side. 

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Etienne highlighted Professor Sachs’ early work on stagflation in the world economy, his design of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, amongst other contributions toward the end of poverty. He also underscored Professor Sachs' leadership in sustainable development, including his service as the Special Advisor to three United Nations Secretaries-General. Ambassador Etienne stated, “[Professor Sachs’] research and thinking continually cross over from the proverbial ivory tower into the real world, to help solve its most immediate, pressing, and complex problems.”
